Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is often the preferential treatment for spider veins. This procedure involves the injection of a solution into the diseased veins which causes the veins to shrink and gradually disappear. Some spider veins can be treated with lasers. Lasers work by targeting the color in the blood vessel, selectively heating the veins and destroying them without damaging surrounding tissues.
For larger varicosities, ultrasound guided injections into the underlying diseased vessels below the surface of the skin may be performed. This allows the administration of the solution into precise locations and generally achieves excellent long-lasting results.
